Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 1999Intense, yellow gold, sparkling with a myriad of fine bubbles - the Pol Roger trade-mark. The nose is structured, forceful but with subtle mineral notes and hints of lemon, white pepper and ginger. Four-square on the palate, mouth filling, robust and powerful. Touches of minerality, even saltiness, with balance, structure and finesse. A long, lingering finish.
Peter Michael Les Pavots2014 Les Pavots greets the eye with a near-black ruby color and vermillion highlights. The nose has a deep bouquet of cacao powder, potpourri, black cherry, blueberry and licorice, with nuances of cedar, cigar box, black tea, graphite, vanilla, black truff le, and a stylish 'garrigue' touch. Extremely full-bodied and elegant, the wine offers the same rich, ripe fruit impressions on the palate. The mouth feel is dense and round, with supple tannins and earthy notes that lead to a long finish. Complex, the wine will age gracefully for two decades and provides a classic presentation of our estate's terroir.
Leonetti Reserve 2012The nose on this wine turns up the volume to 11 (Spinal Tap style). Divinely complex with notes of sweet fresh and dried flowers, balsam, crème brûlée, and vanilla. Pure ripe fruit without being cloying. Background notes of a freshly cut White Fir awaiting Christmas lights. Delicious, incredible length, with a string of perfect acidity coursing throughout and supporting the intense fruit with levity and freshness. Qualitatively, I think this wine is on par with the 2010 but is showing well earlier in its lifespan, offering more immediate drinking pleasure. Remarkably, a small portion of Cabernet from our new Serra Pedace Vineyard contributes to the blend. This is a rarity, in which fruit this young would qualify for the Reserve blend, and bodes incredibly well for the future of this vineyard.
Shafer Relentless 2012This was a classic Napa Valley vintage filled with warm, sunny days and perfect, chilly nights from spring through early autumn. The consistency of heat and coolness created a model growing season in which we harvested fruit at ideal ripeness brimming with rich color and flavor. A bold wine like Relentless complements similar concentrated flavors found in dishes such as Syrah-braised short ribs, smoked lamb with Relentless reduction, roast duck, as well as beef and game. Aged, dry cheeses such as Cheddar, Abbaye De Belloc, and Manchego also pair deliciously.
Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2013Intense, concentrated and deep ruby-red, this wine offers complex aromas of red and black fruits, with spice and wild herb notes. In the mouth, the rich flavors are dense, yet elegant, harmonious and graceful, with sweet but firm tannins. With a long finish, this wine's depth and structure will ensure an extraordinary evolution in bottle. Food Pairing: Pair with rich flavors like braised meats, osso bucco and aged, hard cheeses.
Dominus Napa Valley Red 2014Dominus Estate wines are made with an objective of purity, balance and complexity. Minimal intervention and restraint throughout the process of grape berry selection, fermentation and aging preserve the character of the fruit. The resulting wines convey the very personality of the vineyard. Dominus winemaking includes separate lot-by-lot fermentation. Cluster sorting by hand is complemented by an optical berry sorting system. Gentle pumping-over extracts aromas, color and tannins. Vertical wine press at low pressure delicately releases components from the skin. Racking barrel to barrel in 100% french oak removes sediment and assures clarification of the wine during aging. We recommend decanting the wine prior to serving to allow it to develop its full potential. This is especially important when serving young Dominus wines.
Staglin Family Vineyard Salus Cabernet SauvignonThis is a generous and rich wine marked by dark red fruits, purple flowers and confectionary treats. The pure and primary palate of succulent black cherries, ripe raspberries and plush blackcurrants is teased by a heady aroma of violets mingled with menthol and a hint of cracked green peppercorns. Round and full, the finish is wonderfully fine-grained with delightfully soft edges that give a tremendous amount of pleasure.
Bedrock Wine Co. The Bedrock Heritage Sonoma Red 2016This is the wine I started the winery to make. From vines planted by Senator George Hearst in 1888, this is the geographic and viticultural center of everything else we do. 2016 is one of my favorite Bedrock Heritage wines to date, as I tend to prefer vintages that are less about immediate fruit intensity and ripeness and more in line with the old-school "California Claret" these vines were originally planted to make. This wine is more in line with the 2013 than the 2008 or 2015. The wine, a blend of the 27 varieties interplanted at our family's vineyard is roughly 50% Zinfandel, 20% Carignan, 4% Mataro with the reminder being everything else found in the field. The rocky site yielded a small amount of dense and balanced fruit and as always this wine features the savory, spice-infused character of Sonoma Valley. This wine will last a long time and decanting is highly recommended if consuming in the next few years. I have had a few of the more recent vintage wines that really show nicely after 12-24 hours of double-decanting-there is a lot of goodness coiled in this one.
