Bedrock Wine Co. The Bedrock Heritage Sonoma Red 2016
This is the wine I started the winery to make. From vines planted by Senator George Hearst in 1888, this is the geographic and viticultural center of everything else we do. 2016 is one of my favorite Bedrock Heritage wines to date, as I tend to prefer vintages that are less about immediate fruit intensity and ripeness and more in line with the old-school "California Claret" these vines were originally planted to make. This wine is more in line with the 2013 than the 2008 or 2015. The wine, a blend of the 27 varieties interplanted at our family's vineyard is roughly 50% Zinfandel, 20% Carignan, 4% Mataro with the reminder being everything else found in the field. The rocky site yielded a small amount of dense and balanced fruit and as always this wine features the savory, spice-infused character of Sonoma Valley. This wine will last a long time and decanting is highly recommended if consuming in the next few years. I have had a few of the more recent vintage wines that really show nicely after 12-24 hours of double-decanting-there is a lot of goodness coiled in this one.

Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 1999Intense, yellow gold, sparkling with a myriad of fine bubbles - the Pol Roger trade-mark. The nose is structured, forceful but with subtle mineral notes and hints of lemon, white pepper and ginger. Four-square on the palate, mouth filling, robust and powerful. Touches of minerality, even saltiness, with balance, structure and finesse. A long, lingering finish.
Peter Michael Les PavotsNear black in color with saturated ruby and vermillion nuances, 2015 Les Pavots reveals a deep bouquet of cacao powder, dried blossoms, dried red fruit, black cherry and currant, blueberry and licorice, with nuances of cigar box, graphite, vanilla and black truffle with a stylish 'garrigue' touch. Extremely full-bodied, the palate echoes the nose with the same rich, ripe fruit tones and diverse spice notes. The mouth feel is dense, round and seamless, with supple tannins, savory clove and tobacco elements and beautiful 'patina' notes leading to a long finishwith subtle mineral accents.
Leonetti Reserve 2012The nose on this wine turns up the volume to 11 (Spinal Tap style). Divinely complex with notes of sweet fresh and dried flowers, balsam, crème brûlée, and vanilla. Pure ripe fruit without being cloying. Background notes of a freshly cut White Fir awaiting Christmas lights. Delicious, incredible length, with a string of perfect acidity coursing throughout and supporting the intense fruit with levity and freshness. Qualitatively, I think this wine is on par with the 2010 but is showing well earlier in its lifespan, offering more immediate drinking pleasure. Remarkably, a small portion of Cabernet from our new Serra Pedace Vineyard contributes to the blend. This is a rarity, in which fruit this young would qualify for the Reserve blend, and bodes incredibly well for the future of this vineyard.
Shafer Relentless 2012This was a classic Napa Valley vintage filled with warm, sunny days and perfect, chilly nights from spring through early autumn. The consistency of heat and coolness created a model growing season in which we harvested fruit at ideal ripeness brimming with rich color and flavor. A bold wine like Relentless complements similar concentrated flavors found in dishes such as Syrah-braised short ribs, smoked lamb with Relentless reduction, roast duck, as well as beef and game. Aged, dry cheeses such as Cheddar, Abbaye De Belloc, and Manchego also pair deliciously.
Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2013Intense, concentrated and deep ruby-red, this wine offers complex aromas of red and black fruits, with spice and wild herb notes. In the mouth, the rich flavors are dense, yet elegant, harmonious and graceful, with sweet but firm tannins. With a long finish, this wine's depth and structure will ensure an extraordinary evolution in bottle. Food Pairing: Pair with rich flavors like braised meats, osso bucco and aged, hard cheeses.
Dominus Napa Valley Red 2014Dominus Estate wines are made with an objective of purity, balance and complexity. Minimal intervention and restraint throughout the process of grape berry selection, fermentation and aging preserve the character of the fruit. The resulting wines convey the very personality of the vineyard. Dominus winemaking includes separate lot-by-lot fermentation. Cluster sorting by hand is complemented by an optical berry sorting system. Gentle pumping-over extracts aromas, color and tannins. Vertical wine press at low pressure delicately releases components from the skin. Racking barrel to barrel in 100% french oak removes sediment and assures clarification of the wine during aging. We recommend decanting the wine prior to serving to allow it to develop its full potential. This is especially important when serving young Dominus wines.
WhistlePig The Boss Hog 4th Edition The Black Prince 2017The name says it all. This is our biggest, most profound whiskey. For the Boss Hog in us all.
Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas Le ClauxI have a particular fondness for Le Claux, our oldest vineyard, which produces the wine most akin to Burgundy on our estate, extremely refined and fresh with lots of bouquet. Its propensity to mature is excellent and 2006 Le Claux is showing this fairly well at the moment. And of course, just like our other 2015s, this version of Le Claux will mark the estate's history for its superlative quality and ageability. Wild strawberries, violet, peat, Oriental spices and camphor. Bottled without filtering.
Arnot Roberts Clary Ranch Syrah 2015Dense, powerful and meaty. Beams of tannin enshroud a core of inky blue/purplish fruit. There is so much potential here, but readers will have to be patient to allow that to fully emerge. Rose petal, lavender, mint and blood orange add brightness.
Cayuse En Chamberlin Vineyard Syrah2000 saw the planting of 10 more stony acres. Grafted on phylloxera resistant rootstock, it's another first for our region. Cayuse is a domaine located in the Walla Walla Valley. Over the past 20 years, Christophe has made it his mission to craft food-friendly wines of incredible depth, individuality and character-all from fruit grown entirely using biodynamic farming methods.
Charles Smith Skull Syrah 2005
Behrens & Hitchcock The Heavyweight 2011
Canvasback Cabernet Sauvignon 2014This fragrant wine begins with alluring aromas of blackberry, plum and mountain huckleberry intermingled with brighter notes of Bing cherry and ripe wild strawberry. As it evolves in the glass, layers of anise and sarsaparilla are revealed, alongside hints of caramel and espresso from barrel aging. On the palate, the entry is supple, weighty and rounded, with deliciously ripe tannins and juicy acidity coming together to create a classically structured Cabernet. Underscoring its lush character and fruit intensity is a lovely freshness that carries the wine to a bright, lingering finish.
Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet is widely considered the standard bearer of fine Rutherford Cabernet. Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon-sourced from our landmark Rutherford terroir and crafted in our state-of-the-art winery by Jeffrey Stambor.
Hardin Cabernet Sauvignon 2015Sourced from several regions within Napa including some valley floor and a bit of hillside fruit. Following the blow-out success of the first effort, Doug has continued to put together a stellar follow-up throughout the years. This is very impressive juice that continues to offer tremendous value for Napa Cab!
Ulacia Txakolina Rose 2016Wine does not have to be complicated. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in Julian and Maia Ulacia's simple but functional winery above the small fishing port of Getaria, a few kilometres along the coast from San Sebastian. A pneumatic press, two rows of stainless steel tanks and a bottling line. And from the tanks flows pale-coloured, refreshingly dry white wine with a hint of spritz and a vibrant citric bite. Unique, original…and delicious with the local tuna and anchovies. But where Ulacia has the edge over neighbouring producers is the quality, concentration and ripeness achieved in the vineyard, and our blind tastings consistently show Ulacia to be the most intense and most complete of Txacoli wines.
Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2014We set aside the best barrels of our Cabernet to produce Special Selection - the only wine in the world honored twice as Wine Spectator magazine's "Wine of the Year." Pushing the limits of richness and concentration, this Cabernet is enjoyable upon release or improves with aging a decade or more. Fine, luxurious tannins give structure to intense flavors of supple cacao bean, chocolate and dark fruits.
The Prisoner Wine Company Thorn Merlot 2014Our winemaking team works with a family of growers to source a diverse variety of grapes from premier vineyards throughout California. The resulting wines are interesting blends of distinct quality and character. Earthy aromas open up into cocoa, blackberry, cedar, and anise. The entry is smooth with flavors of cherry, chocolate, vanilla, and a mild toastiness. The finish is long with balanced acidity.
Catena Zapata Alta Chardonnay 2015The Catena Alta Chardonnay shows an intense green-yellow color with golden highlights. The nose offers ripe white fruit aromas such as pears and peaches that are interwoven with delicate citrus and floral notes, such as Jasmine. The palate shows rich and concentrated ripe pear, apple and apricot flavors with a light note of minerality. The wine finishes long and complex with crisp, mineral acidity. Food Pairing: Pair this full-bodied Chardonnay with full-bodied fish like sockeye salmon and tuna, any dish featuring Mousseline sauce, or an old-school classic like Lobster Thermidor.
Odette Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2014The 2014 Odette Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District delivers notes of blackberry liqueur, blueberry cobbler, wild lilacs and incense laced with underpinnings of crushed rocks and graphite. The full-bodied mouthfeel is seamless and riveting, revealing the focused layers of intense dark fruit that collide with an elegant richness and tension that creates an effortlessly endless finish. Enjoy this wine over the next 25+ years.
The Debate Three Vineyard Collection 3 Pack 2014TO KALON WA 92+, DR. CRANE WA 95+, MISSOURI HOPPER WA 95+ Beckstoffer’s TO KALON 2014 Nestled at the edge of the Mayacamas Mountains in the center of Napa Valley, To Kalon receives just a touch of morning fog and full day sun to produce Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with complex layers. Varietal: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Fermentation: 100% barrel fermentation 23 months 100% French Oak; 70% New Case Production: 200 “From the famous Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is another relatively hefty wine at 15.1%. It is very backward for a 2014, and in many ways, just as tannic and structured as its 2013 counterpart. Dense black currant fruit intermixed with hints of camphor, blackberry and unsmoked cigar tobacco are present in this wine, which is not really a blockbuster, but rather an elegant take on the To Kalon Vineyard. Give it 3-4 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25 years.” Robert Parker 92+ Beckstoffer’s DR. CRANE 2014 Dr. Crane is situated on the west side of St Helena which has gravelly loamy soils and a very warm climate. Of all the sites, Dr. Crane is the warmest, and has the most extracted style. Because of this the wine has a very rich and velvety palate with candied fruit on the finish. Varietal: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyards: 100% Beckstoffer Dr.Crane Fermentation: 100% Barrel Fermented 23 months 100% French Oak 70% New Case Production: 200 “The profound 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard (15.1% alcohol) is another La Mission Haut Brion lookalike. Rich, with notes of charcoal embers, barbecue smoke, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, violets and a touch of wood spice, it is full-bodied, powerful, concentrated, layered and impressive. Drink it over the next 25-30 years.” Robert Parker 95+ Beckstoffer’s MISSOURI HOPPER 2014 Missouri Hopper is a spectacular vineyard situated in the hourglass of the Napa Valley, which gives it a cooler climate than neighboring To Kalon Vineyard due to the influence of the bay. Missouri Hopper yields Cabernet Sauvignon that has a balance of ripeness and power with finesse and elegance. We believe this is one of the most exceptional sites Napa Valley has to offer. Varietal: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyards: 100% Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Fermentation: 100% Barrel Fermented 23 months 100% French Oak 70% New Case Production: 200 “The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Missouri Hopper Vineyard has an opaque purple color and a youthful blackberry and black raspberry-scented nose with some notes of lead pencil shavings, forest floor and tobacco leaf. It is full-bodied, rich in fruit, and incredibly youthful and backward for a 2014. A big boy at 15.2% finished alcohol, it would benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age. It is certainly capable of lasting 20 or more years..” Robert Parker 95+
Bodegas y Vinedos Maurodos Prima 2014Prima 2014 Region: Toro D.O. Winery: MAURODOS, BODEGAS Y VINEDOS Grapes: 85% Tinta de Toro, 15% Garnacha Vintage: 2014 Color: Red The grapes for Prima are sourced from vines between 10 and 50 years of age. The vineyards for this wine are growing in sandy-clay soils with gravelly subsoils. Vineyards are trained both en vaso and to wire. The younger estate vines were planted at higher density than existing plantings. This 2014 vintage is uniformed in quantity and quality with balanced phenolic ripeness, aromatic intensity, precise fruit, smooth tannins and well measured aging. Winter was relatively warm, with below average rainfall and rapid bud break. Early flowering in the beginning in June due to a frost-free Spring. Veraison came early and harvesting started September 8th. Harvesting took place for four weeks with perfect weather conditions and occasional storms refreshing the grapes, which had no impact on the health of the fruit. The grapes are harvested by hand with a selection of grapes in the vineyard. The wine is fermented in temperature controlled, conical, stainless steel tanks which allow for caps to naturally be broken very softly during pump overs. The wine was aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels of different ages. Bottled in February 2016.
Freelander District One Cabernet Sauvignon 2016The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is the fourth Cabernet release from Freelander and from California. Aged in and American French oak, it shows massively rich flavors of blackberries and cassis. This medium-bodied wine shows lush mouthfeel, balance and complexity. The ripe, sweet tannins and a touch of toasted oak complete the gentle finish.
Louis M Martini Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015The dark purplish-red hue of our Louis M. Martini Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is indicative of its decadent blueberry and black cherry aromas and flavors. Notes of smoky cedar, dried herbs and licorice unfold around this wine's assertive tannins that will soften with age. Rich and well-structured with a long, lingering finish, this wine is an ideal complement to earthy dishes, wild game and red meats.
Tua Rita Redigaffi 2015In 1984, Rita Tua and her husband, Virgilio Bisiti, purchased around 40 acres of land in Tuscany and planted it to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. By 1992 the winery released its first vintage and began receiving praise and accolades from wine enthusiasts worldwide for its rich, full-bodied wines. It Merlot quickly received cult status so much that the 2000 vintage went on to receive a 100 point score by acclaimed wine critic, Robert Parker. The silty, clay and mineral-rich soils in Suvereto are reflected in the wines themselves, which are known for showcasing hints of saltiness and unique iron qualities. Along with their highly-praised Merlot, Redigaffi, Tue Rita releases an equally impressive Bordeaux Blend wine called Giustro di Notri, a varietal Syrah called Per Sempre and a varietal Sangiovese called Perlato del Bosco. Because most of the wines are so unique and highly-regarded, it is no surprise that Tua Rita wines are some of the most difficult to find in all of Italy.
Saxum James Berry Vineyard Proprietary Red 2015The wines! Downright beautiful (this is the word of the day). They are open and aromatic, the tannins are soft and supple, they are layered and nuanced beyond all belief. They are already enjoyable. You can drink them while waiting for the 14s to come around. Probably even the 13s and 12s for that matter! On the other hand, I believe they will age magnificently. The balance is perfect.
Rack & Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon Bourbon Barrel Aged 2016Introducing Rack & Barrel Bourbon Barrel Cabernet Reserve. Exceptional Lodi Cabernet aged in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels to give it a uniquely bourbon oak flavor. Enjoy notes of brown sugar and toffee to an already robust and flavorful Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Prisoner Wine Company Derange Red 2015“Rich and enticing aromas of blackberry, vanilla bean, baking spices, dark chocolate, and caramel. The palate is overly luscious and giving with notesof dark cherry and blueberry leading to an opulent, velvety finish.“-Winemaker’s Notes
Devil Proof Vineyards Rockpile Ridge Malbec 2015ROCKPILE RIDGE ROCKPILE, SONOMA COUNTY Devil Proof Malbec, Rockpile Ridge, is a robust and powerful wine from the single vineyard site of Rockpile Ridge, in the Rockpile appellation in Northern Sonoma County, the smallest AVA in the United States. Sitting at an elevation of 1,100 feet, with vineyard rows jutting down at 25-degree slopes towards the Lake Sonoma basin, this dramatic vineyard site provides ideally moderate temperatures, forceful coastal breezes, and well-drained soils. Taking our cues from the site itself, we mold our winemaking to best showcase this complex powerful mountain fruit. This Rockpile Malbec is 100% barrel-fermented to control the power of the site’s tannins but at the same time highlight the intensity and concentration of the fruit. This is the first time I have ever seen a wine that was 100% barrel-fermented, which is such labor-intensive process but one that this site demands so we will do nothing less. With little water retention in the gravelly loam soils to begin with, our practice of dry-farming this vineyard further enhances the naturally occurring stress in the vines. Here, our fruit ripens evenly and deeply. The wine is rich, diverse, and striking, and a true expression of its distinctive vineyard source.
Booker Vineyard White 2016A blend mainly of Roussanne and Viognier, the 2016 White has an alluringly savory nose of lightly browned toast, salted almonds and fresh hay over a core of ripe apricots, poached pears and white pepper. The full-bodied palate has a lovely phenolic grip and seductive oiliness to the texture, with tons of savory-laced stone fruit flavors and great length.
Bodegas Juan Gil Monastrell 2015
Venge Scout's Honor 2016Aromas of stone fruits, crushed blue herbs, violets, cherry, anise, and a touch of honeysuckle. On the palate is pure richness from the old-vine Zinfandel with loads of super-ripe blackberry, pepper spice, and an enveloping masculinity of char and tannins from the Syrah, Charbono and Petite Sirah. A seamless balance and mouth coating deliciousness are found throughout the palate, with an extra long finish with a touch of barrel tannin at the end.
The Crane Assembly Disciples 2016Production : 68 barrels To replicate the style and structure of the wines of the G.B. Crane Vineyard we began sourcing from other iconic vineyards in the area. Starting in 2014 with the Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford and the Milat Vineyard in St. Helena, these vineyards can be considered "disciples" of the ancient vines of Crane. We continue to source grapes from these two vineyards and have found other such bespoke vineyards to compliment the blend. Every year the search will continue and vineyards will be added. The goal is to create a blend that combines these wines, separate among equals, they are the disciples of Crane. Tasting Notes Complex and evolving from first taste, unique aromas of granite, brambly fruit, mixed berry cobbler, forest floor and smoke open from the glass. More aromas abound; black plums and boysenberry compote that carry through to the palate that is lush, rich, big and brawny. The finish is lingering and persistent and the wine is definitely addictive. Winemaker: Kevin A. Shebang Red Tenth CuvéeThe informing impulse behind Shebang is to create a wine that is long on deliciousness and low on pretense. We do this by vinifying the wines with the same care and love as the higher end Bedrock wines- picking at respectable sugar levels (not too high!), using only native yeast fermentations, and a trace of good French oak to round things out.

Rarely do we find a perfect balance between the various components of the wine, from the deep ruby colour, to the crisp and fresh fruity hints with an ideally meaty texture, supported by silky, smooth tannins, devoid of any harsh edge.
