Artadi Vinas de Gain 2015
Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Viñas de Gaín could very well be the finest bottling of this pure Tempranillo that comes from 20 to 30 different vineyards in the villages of Laguardia and Elvillar, located at altitudes of 400 and 700 meters on clay and limestone soils, from vines averaging 30 years of age that are farmed organically. It has the same vinification as the single-vineyard reds, with fermentation in oak vats and, in this case, an élevage of 12 months in French barriques. 2013 was the last year they produced Pagos Viejos, but those vineyards are either fermented or bottled separately. This is a very open, expressive vintage of this bottling, serious but at the same time easy to drink. It doesn't have the complexity or depth of the crus, but it's very worthy. This is a clean and fruit-driven vintage that fits very well with the profile of Viñas de Gaín. 100,000 bottles produced. This was very recently bottled, and it's expressive and doesn't show any dizziness.
